Circle K appears to be considering a convenience store and gas station in the Englewood area, a half-mile off Interstate 95.

JEA issued a service availability letter for Circle K at University Boulevard and Barnes Road.

The project comprises a 5,187-square-foot convenience store with fuel pumps on 1.8 acres to replace three developed lots at 5631, 5671 and 5675 University Blvd. W.

The lots are held by two owners and comprise two closed fast-food restaurants and a pool supplies store.

Circle K has been expanding in Jacksonville. It is rebuilding at 12743 Atlantic Blvd., at Girvin Road, where it demolished a smaller store.

It also intends to develop at northwest Atlantic and University boulevards, where it paid almost $1.7 million in July to assemble four parcels totaling 2.15 acres.

In late 2016, Circle K, which operated about 70 locations in greater Jacksonville, started work on its first new construction since it bought the Kangaroo Express stores.

That store now is open at 8837 Beach Blvd., west of Southside Boulevard next to the Promenade Shopping Center.

Area Kangaroo Express stores were rebranded as Circle K following the 2015 acquisition of The Pantry Inc. by Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. Couche-Tard, based in Quebec, integrated The Pantry, which operated Kangaroo Express, into its system.

The 2.02-acre Beach Boulevard site was occupied by a single-family home, which was demolished for Circle K.

In Jacksonville, Circle K joins Gate Petroleum, First Coast Energy, RaceTrac Petroleum and Wawa as they add gas stations and convenience stores with increasingly personalized options, such as touchscreen food ordering and speedy car washes.
