For one night, The Defenders became “avengers.”

In a rematch of the 2019 Jacksonville Bar Association Basketball League championship game, The Defenders held their early lead this year and defeated No. 3 Davis, 59-34.

The Defenders got out to a smokin’ start in the first half, taking a 20-point lead into halftime led by the hot shooting of Adam Schemer, Teddy Foster, Logan Chipperfield and Jon Thacher. The Defenders finally lived up to their name and put on their greatest defensive effort in years with a shutdown performance by Morgan Orender.

Jon “Heart” Lorimier and Pete “Hustle” Venuti provided great energy off the bench to help secure the victory.

In the third-place game, The A-Team got their first win of the season against former league champions, Pajcic, by forfeit.

This Jacksonville Bar Association basketball season was sponsored by StretchJax at 416 S. Third St. in Jacksonville Beach.

The next season begins in August. If you’re looking to get out of the courtroom and onto the court, sign up for our fun and competitive league.
