Jacksonville’s legal community is mobilized to help people through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here’s a message from Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association President Sarah Mannion:

I don’t think any of us could have imagined what this would bring.

As we end another week of social distancing and for many of us, quarantine, it is important to remember that while we may need to be physically distanced, social connection is usually a few clicks or a phone call away.

I find myself heartened by stories of our community coming together, friends reaching out to each other and strangers exchanging grocery items (from a safe distance, of course).

In times of trouble, I always reflect on one of my favorite quotes from Mr. Rogers. “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

There is no shortage of helpers around. I know that some days can be a struggle and the isolation can be frustrating, but I find comfort in knowing that I can reach out and find support from others who are navigating this crisis alongside me.

For now, take note of the following dates for events and announcements:

• JWLA luncheon for Mental Health Awareness Month: 11:45 a.m-1 p.m May 14 at The River Club, featuring mental health counselor Diana Davis. We will be recognizing the JWLA 2020 Woman Lawyer of the Year.

• JWLA luncheon: What’s next with parental leave?: 11:45 a.m. June 11  The River Club with panelists State Attorney Melissa Nelson; JWLA past president Jennifer Shoaf Richardson; and attorneys Lindsay Tygart Ahmed; Alessandro Apolito and Jennifer Feld. It’s the rescheduled March 19 luncheon.

• The 2020 judicial reception: “Centennial Salute to Suffrage, “ the JWLA’s annual flagship event, is moved from June 3 to July 22. Sponsorships are available. Ticket information soon will be available. Contact [email protected] for information.
