Aldi Inc. is preparing to demolish the closed Wells Fargo bank branch at 3650 Philips Highway for construction of a grocery store.
The discount grocer intends to build a 20,442-square-foot store on almost 2.8 acres at Philips Highway and Emerson Street.
Aldi Florida LLC bought the property May 4 from Wells Fargo Bank for $1.8 million.
Schmid Construction Inc. of Clermont will demolish the two-story, almost 9,800-square-foot office building on the site at a cost of $56,000, the permit shows.
Upham Inc. is the civil engineer. SGA Design Group of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is the architect.
The city also is reviewing a permit application for Schmid Construction to build the Aldi store at a construction cost of $1.95 million.
Aldi’s Haines City division is developing the site.
JEA issued a service availability letter for an 8.27-acre commercial development called HSC East Jacksonville at St. Johns Bluff Road and Bahia Drive.
The project consists of a 20,000-square-foot retail store and a 2,500-square-foot restaurant.
Hix Snedeker Companies of Daphne, Alabama, requested the preliminary review.
The company says on its website that it developed 5.3 million square feet of commercial space in 22 states, including 507,852 square feet in Florida.
A representative said no development is confirmed. The land is owned by Pozin Six Children LLC.
