WDs Wine, Beer & Liquor, Winn-Dixie’s new spirits store concept, is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Sept. 1 in Miramar Center, between San Marco and Lakewood.

The store’s Facebook page says the grand opening, with music and giveaways, will be 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The store will open at 4472 Hendricks Ave.

“WDs Wine, Beer & Liquor is your brand NEW destination for fine wine, craft beer and quality liquor,” says the post.

“Check out our impressive selection of quality bottles and navigate it with confidence by either leaning on our knowledgeable staff or using our helpful color-coded tags,” the post says.

“Pick up your go-tos, discover a new favorite, plus, create the perfect charcuterie board!”

The winndixie.com/wds website says the store has close relationships with growers, distillers and brewers, including local breweries, wine makers and drink crafters across the country.

It says there will be more than 1,700 bottles of wine from around the world; more than 500 different brews of beer, including more than 70 local varieties; and spirits that include bourbon, scotch, tequila, rum and cognac.

It will offer more than 70 specialty cheeses and toppings for charcuterie boards.

A Winn-Dixie spokesperson said the company has partnered with local artist Jason Tetlak to create a mural on the outside of the store.

"The mural will feature a fun, abstract design that will incorporate store colors, signature Miramar neighborhood landmarks and themes that will be unveiled during the Grand Opening," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc. announced July 20 that it would introduce the stand-alone WDS concept.

A news release said the WDs will be the first in the grocer’s Southeast footprint.

It said the store is designed to offer customers an interactive shopping experience, including a wine-tasting station with 10 wines on tap “for customers to sip and discover new favorites, a massive Beer Cave with international, domestic and local craft beer selections, large variety of liquor selections with a Mixology section and much more.”

The WDs store will host free events throughout the year including tastings, demonstrations, holiday celebrations and community gatherings.

A spokeswoman said the store will open at 9 a.m. daily and close at 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

The city issued a permit June 16 for Southeastern Grocers to build-out the Winn-Dixie liquor store format.

Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. is the contractor for the $180,000 interior renovation of 8,640 square feet at the site, at the southern end of the building anchored by Players Grille.

The store is larger than traditional Winn-Dixie Wine & Spirits stores. By comparison, a liquor store that recently opened at 11380 Beach Blvd. is 2,665 square feet.
