Who earns the most in Jacksonville city government

JEA, the city-owned utility, accounts for 27 of the 70 positions that earn more than $200,000 a year.

CEOs of three of Jacksonville’s independent authorities are the highest-paid city employees. 

As of June 15, JEA Managing Director and CEO Jay Stowe tops the list with a $650,000 annual base pay, according to city salary data analyzed and compiled by the Jacksonville Daily Record. 

Jacksonville Transportation Authority CEO Nathaniel Ford’s base salary ranks second at $458,923, followed by Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Eric Green at $440,475.

Public record requests made June 2-27 to Jacksonville City Hall, city independent authorities and Duval County Public Schools for the current salaries of the 50 highest-paid public officials at each agency show 70 city government employees making more than $200,000 per year. 

Stowe received a raise this year. The JEA board voted unanimously to amend his five-year contract to increase the city electric and water utility’s chief’s base salary from $594,131 to $650,000. 

Green received a $40,043 raise effective Oct. 1, 2022, to reach his current salary, according to a breakdown provided by JaxPort. 

DCPS Superintendent Diana Greene, who retires July 24, is making $300,000 per year, according to the district.

Her replacement, former Deputy Superintendent and current interim Superintendent Dana Kriznar, received a pay increase effective June 6 from $181,199 to $300,000.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and outgoing Mayor Lenny Curry, who leaves June 30, are the only two elected officials on the list. 

Curry earned $230,016 during his final year in office. Waters’ annual salary as of June 27 was $220,359.
