A Ponte Vedra Beach home donated to The Sontag Foundation Inc. to raise money for brain cancer research sold July 13 for $20 million, according to St. Johns County property records.
The Sontag Foundation, based in Ponte Vedra Beach, sold the home at 1185 and 1187 Ponte Vedra Blvd. to FaverGray Homes LLC of Jacksonville Beach.
Property records show the 8,558-square-foot home was built on 4.6 acres in 1994. It has five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. According to the Realtor.com listing, the oceanfront home has a pool and spa, balcony, patio and porch features and a wine cellar.
There is a three-car garage with attached carport and the property is gated. It has 640 feet of waterfront and a dune walkover. The house is 30 feet above sea level.
Rick Sontag was president of Unison Industries, an aerospace company, and brokered its sale to GE Aerospace in 2002.
In the late 1990s, his spouse, Susan Sontag, was diagnosed with brain cancer. After the company sale, the couple formed the Sontag Foundation to fund and promote cancer and other brain illness research. She survived nearly 30 years before dying in 2022.
In July 2024, Rick Sontag gifted the property to the foundation to help raise funds for brain cancer research.
FaverGray was founded by James Gray and W. Keith Faver in 2005. FaverGray Homes, formed in 2021 and led by Adam Gray, specializes in upscale properties, working on architectural and interior design, general contracting and land development, according to its website.
