An unidentified buyer represented by a Fort Lauderdale-based law firm bought the home of the late Robert D. Davis, former chair of Winn-Dixie, on May 27 for $16.5 million.
Loving Scully Law Group PLLC bought the property through LFE Trust, according to St. Johns County records. A real estate agent involved in the sale said Loving Scully represented a buyer who wants to be anonymous. The law firm’s website says it specializes in estate planning, tax law and corporate law.
According to realtor.com, the 8,815-square-foot waterfront home at 5575 San Pablo Road S. has four bedrooms and eight bathrooms on a 12.08-acre lot. It was built in 2002.
Davis died Jan. 19.
He was born Oct. 15, 1931, in West Palm Beach to Letha Wilton Davis and A. Darius Davis, a founder of the company formerly known as Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. It is now The Winn-Dixie Company LLC.
For more than 35 years, Robert D. Davis served the grocery chain in a number of roles, including financial vice president and chairman of the board. Davis retired from Winn-Dixie in 1990 and became chairman of DDI Inc., a Davis family investment company, according to his online obituary.
In addition to serving on boards of such companies as American Heritage Life, First Union Corp., Florida Rock Industries and Stein Mart, Davis was involved in civic and cultural organizations including the Jacksonville Port Authority, WJCT Public Broadcasting, St. Luke’s Hospital, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens and Jacksonville Community Council Inc.
