Wawa Inc.’s initial rollout in Jacksonville could include a location in one of the newest retail developments, The Crossing near St. Johns Town Center.

A 6,119-square-foot Wawa convenience store and gas station is planned on 2.16 acres at the corner of Gate and Town Center parkways. Its address will be on Skinner Lake Drive, north of Bono’s restaurant.

It is the second identified site for Pennsylvania-based Wawa. The first is at Beach Boulevard and Central Parkway.

The Jacksonville Planning Commission will consider an application June 9 for landowner Preferred Growth Properties LLC to modify the site plan for a right-in access on Gate Parkway. The application for the minor modification was filed April 11.

The written description and site plan were part of Ordinance 2015-222-E. In addition to the amended site plan, the written description will be changed to add a convenience store with gas pumps.

A preliminary site plan filed with the application shows Wawa’s site is part of the 9.3-acre Crossing, which comprises five outparcels from 1.31 to 2.16 acres.

The Crossing is opposite PGP’s The Strand, a larger site designed for retail stores, restaurants, a hotel and apartments.

Hobby Lobby, Firebird’s Wood Fired Grill and Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen restaurant have said they will open in The Strand. The Ravella at Town Center Apartment Homes also is planned on the northern end of the property.

Lawyer Paul Harden is the agent for the modification.

Wawa Regional Real Estate Manager Brian Duke said Thursday the company has five sites under contract in Duval and Clay counties with contracts out for more locations.

The company envisions up to 25 locations in Duval, Clay and St. Johns counties. It has more than 725 stores, with 87 in Florida.

Wawa’s president and other executives scheduled a June 9 presentation to city, development and media representatives to outline the company’s plans for the area.
