Members of the public are invited to volunteer for appointment by the state Supreme Court for a three-year term on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.

The board ensures that applicants seeking a license to practice law in Florida meet the requirements with regard to character and fitness, education and technical competence prior to recommending to the court an applicant’s admission to The Florida Bar.

A public member volunteer should have education or work-related experience such as educational testing, accounting, statistical analysis, medicine, psychology or related sciences. A bachelor’s degree is required. Lawyers are not eligible.

Board members must be able to attend approximately 10 meetings a year in various Florida locations, with travel and expenses reimbursed.

Board members should be able to devote the equivalent of three to four days’ work a month, or up to 350 or more hours per year depending on committee assignments.

Candidates should not have adverse interests, conflicting duties or inconsistent obligations that may interfere or appear to interfere with the proper administration of the board’s mandate from the court.

The vacancy will occur on Nov. 1.

Volunteers may visit www-media.floridabar.org/uploads/2020/01/Questionnaire-for-Public-Member-Vacancy-R.pdf or call (850) 561-5757 to obtain the questionnaire.

Completed applications must be received no later than the close of business on March 23. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application.

A joint committee of The Florida Bar board of governors and the Florida Board of Bar Examiners will review all applications and may request telephone or personal interviews.
