The Jacksonville Transportation Authority’s elevated Skyway train system will return to service July 1, and require all riders and visitors to JTA facilities to wear masks.
JTA Communications Director David Cawton said in a June 29 news release the move is meant to comply with Mayor Lenny Curry’s June 29 executive order mandating face coverings in public and indoor places to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Face masks will be required on all JTA vehicles and facilities, according to the release.
Skyway and security staff will provide masks to customers at Central, Hemming and Kings Avenue stations. JTA said it will have a limited number of masks available for riders.
The Skyway will run from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday. The service also will be available from 7-11 p.m. July 4.
Passengers also will be required to wear a face covering on fixed-route buses and other transportation services, according to the news release. Transportation system employees and visitors to JTA facilities already are required to wear masks.
“Social distancing and other guidelines in accordance with the recommendations from the Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will remain in place in addition to this new measure,” the news release states. “Advanced cleaning and disinfecting activities on buses and at JTA workplaces will continue.”
JTA will enforce social distancing and the Skyway will have an “enhanced security presence” at all Skyway stations, JTA said in the release. Trains will be cleaned every four hours, in addition to fogging and antimicrobial treatments that occur every 30 days.
