The Jacksonville City Council will consider a $100,000 grant for Phoenix Products LLC’s proposed administration building near Talleyrand.
Ordinance 2020-0587, filed Sept. 16, would award the manufacturer of custom generator enclosures a Northwest Jacksonville Business Infrastructure Grant to build an administrative building at 1544 E. Eighth St.
Phoenix plans to demolish an existing building for its offices, according to documents filed with the bill by the city Office of Economic Development.
Documents state the total development cost, including demolition, architectural, engineering and legal fees, is $2.144 million.
Phoenix told city officials it expects to create 12 full-time jobs at an average wage of $44,800 per year plus benefits with the expansion of its 1727 Bennett St. facility, which is adjacent to the proposed building.
The company employs 85 full-time employees in Jacksonville with a $3.8 million annual payroll.
The grant will come from the Jacksonville Northwest Economic Development Fund.
The Mayor’s Budget Review Committee voted unanimously Sept. 8 to file the legislation. The bill was filed by City Council President Tommy Hazouri at the request of Mayor Lenny Curry’s office.
It’s scheduled to be introduced at Council’s 4 p.m. Sept. 22 online meeting.
