Corner Lot Development Group announced April 12 it acquired the historic River House in Riverside.

The structure at 2105 River Blvd. previously was a hotel, a private residence and an apartment building. It also hosted Mary Todd Lincoln for an extended period between 1874 and 1875.

Originally called the Rochester House, it was constructed about 1869 near the intersection of Leila Street and Riverside Avenue.

“When we learned the River House was available it was an easy decision for us to add it to the Corner Lot portfolio,” Corner Lot CEO Andy Allen said in a news release.

“It gave us the opportunity to preserve another chapter of Jacksonville’s history while also allowing it to remain a functional component of the Riverside community.”

The three-story building was moved from its original location to its current site via a barge trip down the St. Johns River in 1911.

The River House is across the street from Corner Lot’s corporate headquarters at 1819 Goodwin St. Also a historic structure, the Goodwin House was renovated and preserved by Corner Lot when it was purchased in 2020.

In addition to the River House, Corner Lot is renovating and preserving the historic Jones Brothers Furniture Co. Building Downtown on Hogan Street, the City of South Jacksonville building at 1001 Kings Ave. and the structure on the corner of First and Main streets in Springfield.
