Jacksonville-based U.S. Legal Services was acquired by an affiliate of CCW Safe, Heritage Capital Group announced May 5.

U.S. Legal Services, at 8133 Baymeadows Way, is a nationwide provider of legal insurance benefit plans to employer groups, associations, unions and other types of organizations.

CCW Safe offers legal insurance for people who carry firearms in the event they are involved in a shooting.

Heritage said the affiliate buyer is USLBuyer Holdco LLC and that U.S. Legal Services would continue to operate under that name.

CCW Safe is headquartered in Oklahoma City.

USL, founded by Marie and John Forbes, has offered legal insurance plans for nearly 50 years, Heritage said in the release.

Heritage said Kyle Sweet, a founder of CCW Safe, will assume control of USL as chairman and CEO.

USL Chief Financial Officer Renee Bateh will become president and serve on USL’s board of directors.

Heather McClure was named secretary and a director of USL.

Sweet and McClure also are affiliated with Helio Risk, an insurance risk mitigation company headquartered in Oklahoma City that says it has an office in Jacksonville.

However, Heritage said Helio Risk has no involvement in and is not affiliated in the transaction.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
