A rebuilt Publix Super Market in Fernandina Beach is scheduled to open July 2.
The store is at 1421 Sadler Road, where it replaces a Publix that closed in April 2025 and was demolished. It is in the Island Walk Shopping Center near South 14th Street.
The new 55,701-square-foot store matches the size of Publix’s newest prototype location that opened March 26 in the SilverLeaf master-planned community in St. Johns County — the only other store of that size in the region.
Publix’s average store footprint is about 50,000 square feet.
The prototype features Publix Pours, an in-store beer and wine bar, along with expanded deli offerings including pizza and burritos, upgraded product displays and self-served hot food.
Bohler Engineering FL LLC of Boca Raton was the civil engineer on the Fernandina Beach project, Benning Construction Co. of Atlanta was the contractor. The city of Fernandina Beach permitted the project Jan. 7, and the St. Johns River Water Management District issued an environmental resource permit in 2023.
The 19.89-acre Island Walk Shopping Center, built in 1987, also includes Coastal Pizza and Golf Pub Social among its tenants. Island Walk Station LLC, an entity tied to Phillips Edison & Co. of Cincinnati, owns the property.
During the closure, the nearest Publix serving Fernandina Beach shoppers was the Publix Super Market at Villages of Amelia, about 6 miles away in Yulee.
