A cafe planned on the ground floor of The Residences at Barnett building in Downtown Jacksonville will operate as the 1926 Coffee Co., the building’s owners announced.

In posts on LinkedIn and Instagram, building owner Becovic Management Group said the cafe would bring “handcrafted coffee, signature drinks and a unique experience to one of Jacksonville’s most iconic landmarks.”

The posts say the cafe’s name pays tribute to the building’s origins. Although Duval County Property Appraiser’s records show the Barnett was built in 1923, other references show it as being constructed in 1926.

In May 2026, the Daily Record reported that the city was reviewing a permit for tenant build-out of 646 square feet for dining, coffee, a market and back-of-house space in the historic building at 112 W. Adams St.

A website for the cafe, 1926coffee.com, lists it as “coming soon” to the Barnett building.

The site shows signature drinks from $4 to $6.50, coffee from $3 to $5.25, tea and other drinks from $3.50 to $5.25 and pastries from $3.25 to $4.50.

Other coffee options within four blocks of the Barnett include Setlan Coffee Co., 333 N. Laura St.; Chamblin’s Uptown, 215 N. Laura St.; Something Better Cafe & Kitchen, 236 W. Adams St.; Urban Grind Coffee Co., 45 W. Bay St.; Birdie Coffee Co., in the lobby of 1 Independent Square, at 1 Independent Drive; and Jacksonville Coffee Co., 6 E. Bay St.

Becovic, based in Indiana, owns the building through BMG Barnett LLC.

Avant Construction Group is the contractor for the estimated $95,000 project. Group 4 Design Inc. is the architect and interior designer. Both firms are based in Jacksonville.

The 18-story building includes 11 stories of apartments from the eighth through 18th floors. The second through seventh floors are occupied or available for lease to office tenants.
