A key office aiding Jacksonville City Council will see promotions and position changes as its lead retires at the end of May.

Assistant Phillip Peterson will take over for Council Auditor Kim Taylor, who retires May 27.

Council auditors provide Council members and the public with information related to city and independent agency spending, including legislative reviews, budget reviews and special reports. The auditors also take on projects at the request of Council members.

Council members say they rely on to that information in making decisions.

“The expectations of what the Council auditor is expected to do… (are) just bringing the facts and providing us the material and information that we need to know in order to make good decisions,” Council member Matt Carlucci said at a May 12 Council meeting.

Taylor began working in the Council auditor’s office in 1995 in multiple roles. She was named Council auditor in 2020. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in accountancy, both from the University of North Florida.

Peterson began working in the Council auditor’s office in 2005. He has worked as assistant Council auditor since 2020. He also holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Florida.

Peterson will be aided by assistant Council auditors Brian Parks and Heather Reber. Parks has worked in the office since 2008, and Reber began in 2003.
