JEA received a service availability request May 19 for the 128-room Cambria Hotel under construction at 7826 Ozark Drive in the Gate Parkway area east of Interstate 295.

St. Johns Law Group is the agent.

Jacksonville-based Ash Properties has posted a sign in front for Cambria Hotels & Suites “coming soon.”

The city continues to review permits associated with the project, which is in development between Ash Properties’ Fremount Business Center, anchored by Synovus Bank, and the Mayo Clinic Primary Care Center.

The city issued a building permit July 15, 2019, for Ash Construction LLC to build the almost 91,000-square-foot Cambria hotel at a construction cost of $1.48 million.

No permits were issued between September 2919 and Feb. 25, 2022.

From February through May 2022, the city issued permits totaling almost $3.6 million for the project.

The project is on 3.44 acres at 7800 Ozark Drive in Hampton Village, east of Interstate 295 near Baymeadows Road East.

The property owner is shown as Archer Hospitality LLC, which was deeded the site Nov. 26, 2019, from Ozark Investment Group LLC.

Both limited liability companies are based at the Ash Properties Inc. headquarters along Gate Parkway. Both LLCs’ manager is Nouveau Management Group LLC, led by Elaine Ashourian.

Cambria Hotels is a brand of Choice Hotels International.

The city also previously issued a concurrency reservation certificate for the project.

Plans say it is a five-story, 128-room hotel with a pool on 3.4 acres.

Plans and a news release at the time said it will be five stories while the permit shows six stories.

The permit indicates a first-floor lobby bar, market, hangout area, kitchen, meeting rooms, fitness area and an outdoor pool.

Ash Properties has not responded to requests for comment.

The pandemic that began in March 2020 delayed development projects, including hotels.

In November 2018, Randall Whitfield, Ash Properties COO, said he anticipated construction would be completed in 2020.

“We like their concept. It’s the upper scale of their hotel brand. We visited several Cambrias and liked what we saw,” Whitfield said at the time.

Whitfield said Ash Properties will enlist a hotel hospitality specialist to operate the full-service property.

Civil plans for the project, called the Hampton Village Hotel, showed it as a five-story, 128-room hotel with a pool on 3.4 acres at 7826 Ozark Drive east of Interstate 295 near Baymeadows Road East.

Baker Design Build is the civil engineer.

An April news release about the opening of a hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, says the Cambria Hotels brand is designed for the “modern traveler.”

Properties feature “spacious and comfortable rooms, flexible meeting space, and local, freshly prepared food and craft beer.”

Amenities include meeting space, a fitness center and a bar and bistro, depending on the location.

It said Cambria Hotels is expanding rapidly in major U.S. cities, with hotels open in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C.

It said there are more than 130 Cambria properties open or in the pipeline across the United States.

The Cambria Hotels website shows more than 60 locations, including four coming soon, in 25 states and Washington, D.C.,

It shows the five Florida locations in Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Madeira Beach, Miami and Orlando, where a second location is coming soon.

Rates at the Florida hotels started June 7 at $103 to $166.

Choice Hotels has 13 brands that comprise Ascend, Cambria, Comfort, Clarion and Clarion Pointe, Econo Lodge, Roadway Inn, Sleep Inn and Quality Inn and the suites hotels MainStay Suites, WoodSpring Suites, Everhome Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel.
