Petsense, a pet products retailer owned by Tractor Supply Co., plans to open its first store in Jacksonville.

The city issued a permit Oct. 10 for Wisconsin-based Lakeview Construction to build-out 6,220 square feet of space at 6765 Dunn Ave. at a cost of $420,360.

The store is next to Rowe’s IGA Supermarkets in Dunn Village at northeast Dunn Avenue and New Kings Road in Northwest Jacksonville.

It is 2 miles north of a Tractor Supply store at 9025 New Kings Road.

Petsense has 189 stores in 25 states, including one in Middleburg. It has about 12 stores in Florida.

Petsense by Tractor Supply says on petsense.com that it focuses primarily in small and midsize communities.

“We specialize in providing a large assortment of pet food, supplies and services, such as grooming and training, and offering customers a tailored experience while providing the top-quality products they need at a price they love,” it says.

“We are also committed to promoting responsible pet ownership through pet adoptions, community involvement and education.”

Brentwood, Tennessee-based Tractor Supply bought the 136-store Petsense chain for about $116 million in Sept. 2016.
