Publix Super Markets Inc. is renovating its Sawgrass Village store.

St. Johns County issued a permit Feb. 2 for Perry-McCall Construction Inc. of Jacksonville to renovate the store at 220 Front St. in Ponte Vedra Beach at a cost of $900,000.

The 50,000-square-foot store was built in 2013 after Publix demolished a smaller one and redeveloped.

PSM Sawgrass LLC, which is affiliated with Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets, bought the 7-acre shopping center for $82 million in September 2022.

Publix is the primary tenant of the shopping center along Florida A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The 140,220-square-foot center was owned by affiliates of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. since the insurance company foreclosed on the property in 2010.

Besides Publix, other stores in the center include a CVS pharmacy and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.

The shopping center underwent a renovation in phases that started in 2015.
