Publix Super Markets Inc. continues on its path of renovations, refreshes and rebuilds as it turns its attention to remodeling its store in OakLeaf Plantation Center.
The city issued a permit June 9 for Elkins Construction LLC of Jacksonville to remodel the roughly 50,000-square-foot supermarket that was built in 2003 at 9518 Argyle Forest Blvd.
The store is in Southwest Jacksonville, east of the First Coast Expressway at southwest Argyle Forest Boulevard and Oakleaf Village Parkway.
The permit shows a project cost of $1.2 million.
Little Diversified Architectural Consulting of Charlotte, North Carolina, is the architect. Genesis Engineering Collaborative of Suwanee, Georgia, is the civil engineer.
The permit plans show that Lakeland-based Publix will remodel parts of the store that included adding a self-checkout corral of stations, keeping seven full-service lanes, down from nine.
Other improvements include freezer, cooler, deli preparation, bakery and floral areas.
Publix maintains a cycle of updating its stores, including razing and rebuilding.
Among the latest, the Deerwood Village store built in 1974 at 9964 Old Baymeadows Road was demolished and is being rebuilt.
